2016. What a disaster of a year. Not only because all the celeb deaths made it feel like we were living in a yearlong episode of Game of Thrones, but 2016 was a tough year for me personally.
It all kicked off in the worst way possible, with my Grandads funeral in early Jan, in fact he died one year ago today (#RIPGranddad). And the year just continued to go downhill from there – Brexit happened. I turned 30. Me and my partner of five years broke up. I moved out of London and back in with my parents. My anxiety worsened. My career fell apart. I gave up on writing. My blog suffered.
Listing all these depressing things that have happened throughout the year, it would be so easy to write this year off as the worst year of my life.
But no. Because through the heartache, the misery and the constant questioning of ‘What am I doing with my life?’ there were the adventures. Oh, the adventures.
I decided to create the below video, a 2016 Travel vlog, to share with you guys and to reflect on all the cities, both near and far, that I had ventured to. As I chopped up more than six hours of travel footage into my four minute vlog, reliving those magical moments, I asked myself ‘How could I possibly write 2016 off as a bad year?’ 2016 is the year I jumped out of an aeroplane, the year I visited inca ruins, it’s the year I ate Guinea Pig and discovered Currywurst (not on the same plate). I met Llamas, hiked mountains, learnt Spanish and made new friends. This year has been incredible. Yes it’s been tough, extremely tough, but I have to look at the good parts, the fun parts, the ‘best bits’, and my oh my they were incredible.
I hope this video inspires you all to go on your own adventures in 2017, and I hope it reminds us (yes, me included) that even when going through heartbreak, sadness, confusion or loneliness, that things will get better, and that our next adventure is out there waiting for us.
I can’t wait to do more travelling next year. I hope you like the vlog and I hope 2017 will be your best year EVER! (and mine too *crosses fingers*)
