Christmas Gifts for the Adrenaline Junkie

December 5, 2016

Having spent the past six weeks in South America doing things I would never normally do – including cycling for the first time in 17 years and jumping 10,000ft out of an aeroplane – I now have a brand new thirst for ‘living life on the edge’ as they say.

With that in mind, I thought I would do an alternative Christmas gift guide for the adrenaline junkies in your family or friendship groups. How about instead of wrapping up another pair of socks for that difficult-to-buy-for person in your life, why not wrap them up some adventure? If adventure is what they crave, then adventure they shall have.

Think you can’t afford it? I’ve sussed out some incredible adrenaline fulled experiences for all budget types…

BUDGET: Broke AF (£)

Paint Balling for One | £15
That’s right, for just £15 you can treat a mate to a day of ducking, diving and combatting, erm, balls of paint. It even includes lunch. Or if you wanted to join in the fun, or perhaps send them off with a friend, upgrade the package to a Paintball Experience for two for just a tenner extra.

Winter Water Zorbing for Two | £16
I’ve always wanted to go Zorbing, but this brilliant Zorbing offer takes place on water. Think you’re adventure-loving pal will be able to stay upright for the full 30 minute experience? Or will they go rolling Hamster-wheel style? This gift experience is for two people so why not try it for yourself? Of course if you fancy splashing the cash, as well as splashing in the water, upgrade to the Aqua Zorbing for two for £43, where you will roll down a steep hill, inside a wet slippery Zorb with no harnesses or straps!

Two Hour Trampoline Experience | £18
For just £18 you can treat that special someone to two whole hours of bouncing around. Not only are these warehouses lined wall-to-wall with trampolines, but there are basket ball hoops to slam dunk, gymnastic style airbags to try your very best Simone Biles move, and even a bubble jump to have some Total Wipeout style fun!

Ride the Slide at the ArcelorMittal Orbit | £25
Not just for kids, this is the world’s longest and tallest slide and takes 40 seconds to descend. Expect spectacular views of London from the viewing platform, followed by being kitted up for your stomach flipping, twisty, speedy slide to the bottom. A family ticket is available for £46 if you fancied treating the whole gang.

Bounce Below | £25
In Wales exists a cave with six levels of bouncy fun, from trampolines and stretchy nets to brand new super fast slides. Each colourful level glows in the dark of this Welsh cave. I want to go, I want to go!

Bungee Catapult | £35
A little bit cheaper than leaping from the sky, the Bungee Catapult will do a reverse style bungee for your friend; they will start on the ground and be catapulted 100-ft into the air. This is the perfect gift for those that have always wanted to bungee, but arent quite sure they will have the balls of steel necessary once they’re stood at the edge of a bridge.

BUDGET: Willing to treat em’ but also got bills to pay (££)

Bungee Jump | £49
For those that do have balls of steel, treat them to a 160ft bungee jump that will most certainly get their adrenaline pumping. Once you leap, you then bounce up and down for a little while – it sounds amazing! This experience takes place at nine different locations across the UK including Northern Ireland.

Six Mile Helicopter Buzz Flight | £42
Not all experinces in the air need to involve jumping or falling from the sky, instead you can treat your loved one to a trip in a Jet Ranger helicopter, flying high as they take in the incredible views below them – available at various locations across the UK

iFly Indoor Skydive for two | £54
Much like a bungee jump, a skydive can be extremely scary for some, not to mention expensive. It would be a big waste of money if you flew all the way up there and then couldn’t jump. But luckily, iFLY now offer indoor skydive experiences, where you can enjoy the sensation of skydiving and get a taste of what it’s like to freefall. This offer is for two people, but you can just treat one mate for £29

Battle of the Boats | £58
This experience, for two lucky people, includes a 90 minute thrill ride as two boats battle it out as they speed across the Southampton waters. This trip is bound to get their hearts racing as they bounce, twist, turn and splash their way along the water. Make sure they wear that life jacket good and tight!

BUDGET: Screw it – Let’s splash the cash (£££)

Weekday Sunrise Hot Air Balloon Flight | £99
Imagine someone unwrapping this for Christmas? A gift voucher inviting them to sail high in the sky at 3,000ft to enjoy birds eye views of some stunning UK locations, including Devon, Cornwall and Somerset. This unique experience even ends with a glass of champers after the fairytale ride has ended, it sounds perfect!

The Jetpack Experience | £159
This price is quite steep for what is essentially only 20 minutes out on the water, but if you know flying a jetpack is something they really want to try, then why not treat them this Christmas? This experience includes the opportunity to stick around for the whole day to watch everyone else’s Jetpack fun (or possibly disasters).

SkyDive | £159 – £308
Having recently done a skydive, I cannot recommend this enough and I think it would make the best Christmas gift EVER for any adrenaline junkies out there who haven’t already done it. It’s a pricey experience but very much worth it. There are so many on offer out there, with all different prices and locations, so here are a few links:

PLEASE REMEMBER to check all the information before you purchase any gift experiences. Certain experiences have height, weight and age restrictions, and just to remind you that your voucher will have an expiry date from the date of issue.
