Greetings from Argentina!
I am currently writing this post from the city of Mendoza, Argentina, from the comfort of my hostel sofa as I nurse a nasty cold *sniffle sniffle* Of course, by the time you are reading this I will be riding a bicycle around Mendoza’s wine country. No amount of sneezing, coughing or spluttering can get in the way of me and wine (not sure how the bike riding will turn out considering I haven’t been on a bicycle in about 17 years, so wish me luck).
Anywho, as you know I’ve been gallivanting around South America recently so blogging has been somewhat difficult, especially as I’m travelling without a laptop. But I thought I could do with sharing a brand new Happy Monday post, listing all the wonderful things that have been making me smile lately…
…okay, okay, so it’s a Tuesday list this time, no thanks to the hectic life of a backpacker, an ILL backpacker, but sometimes we need to cheering up on Tuesdays too…
Lazy Days in Santiago
After a hectic few weeks in Peru where I felt like I didn’t stop, from hiking, to hiking, then more hiking, it felt a little strange to find myself in Santiago, Chile, with not much to do. But I found a nice hostel that was almost like a guest house and treated myself to a lazy few days where I soaked up the sun, ate lots of yummy food and made good use of the hostel pool.
When I say I’m tan, I mean I’m tanned for me, but probably the average skin colour for everyone else. But still, yay, for not being as pale and white as a creepy vampire.
Coffee & Cake
South America know how to do their cakes. One of my favourite things to do in each new city I arrive in is find a nice cafe to enjoy a piece of cake with a cup of coffee. The Lighthouse, a Cafe in La Serena, Chile, has been my favourite so far. This lovely little cafe was so bright and light and beautifully decorated, it would calm even the angriest of people when waking in. And the food was delicious; I was so impressed with the coffee and cake on my first visit, I went back the next day for an iced latte and chocolate brownie. Cake will ALWAYS make me happy, wherever I am in the world.
Bus journeys in South America are loooooooong, so I always download films or programmes onto my iPad to get me through the extra long ones, and this week I randomly downloaded Season 1 of 30 Rock.
Wow! Why haven’t I ever watched this show before?? It’s awesome – I’m surprised at how often I find myself actually Laughing Out Loud (not always great on a bus full of sleeping people). Tina Fey is basically amazing, I love her.
My Valparaiso Street Art Tour
The Chilean city of Valparaiso didn’t exactly steal my heart like I thought it would or make me want to move there like all the travel blogs assured me it would, but it’s fantastic street art did make my eyes pop out of my head cartoon style. The entire town is one big art attack; every wall, shop, doorway and even every step has had a graffiti artist paint it into something else. Although I wasn’t a huge fan of the city itself, I loved the street art tour I took and saw some really incredible pieces of art, and the trip was worth it for that alone.
It’s a hot dog covered in diced tomatoes, avocado & mayo. Nuff’ said.
Only 34 sleeps until Christmas
Yup, just 33 sleeps till that special day comes, my favourite day of the year, when we get to eat aaaaaaall day, open presents, whilst wrapped in snuggly jumpers!
What’s been putting a big fat smile on your face recently? I’d love to know in the comments below.
