Iced Lattes are my fave. Flavoured Frappes are yummy too. The only problem is that they aren’t exactly the healthiest of drinks, and they can be quite expensive too. From Costa’s creamy Caramel Coolers to Starbucks Cookie Crumble Frappuccino’s (although, wow, that sounds tasty) these iced coffee drinks are quite calorific and mighty high in sugar, and each costing around £3.40.
So why not make your own at home? I’ve been making myself one every morning as part of my breakfast routine, a sweet and tasty one that is refreshing, hydrating AND has health benefits! Oh and I’m saving more than £15 a week in doing so. Here is how:
THE INNOCENT FRAPPUCINO
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
- Coffee – either one shot of espresso or brewed coffee (or instant granules if your feeling lazy!)
- 1/2 banana
- 1 tsp of honey
- A dash of milk (soy or almond if vegan)
- 1 cup of innocent coconut water
- 4/5 Ice cubes
Tip: For best results, brew the coffee the night before and leave in the fridge overnight.
Excluding the ice cubes, chuck all the ingredients together in a blender.
If using a nutribullet (ahem, now on sale) blend for about 30-40 seconds. For other blenders, blend for around 60 seconds or until the mix becomes a smooth liquid. There should be no banana lumps!
Tip: If you prefer your frappes thick and milkshake-like, just add more banana
Add the ice cubes to a cup or glass and pour the mix in, and Voila!
The Health Benefits
Innocent coconut water it is fat free and one carton contains 26% of your recommended daily potassium. Made from the juices of 4 lovely coconuts, it helps you to stay hydrated (FYI – it’s great for a hangover). With some banana thrown in there, aka 1 of your 5 a day, plus a little bit of honey, or liquid gold as some call it for its amazing health benefits (fights diseases, reduces infections and speeds recovery processes!) this recipe will give you plenty of fuel, keep you hydrated, Oh and it taste A-MAZING! Perfect for those with a sweet tooth.
Tip: Want more flavour? Add one of the following to give your innocent Frappucino a twist…
Chocolate – Add 1 heaped tsp of Hot chocolate powder
Peanut Butter – Add 1 tsp of Smooth Peanut Butter
