The Top 10 Most Outrageous Airport Attractions

May 13, 2016

There is nothing worse than a long layover in a boring airport.

A few years ago I had a six hour layover in a small airport in South East Asia. Six Hours! Friends had told me β€œDon’t Worry, that airport is fantastic!” and they went on to describe lovely restaurants and a beautiful rainforest themed lounge. Great.

No. Not Great. It turns out my friends had flown with a different airline and had experienced a completely different Terminal to the small, clammy, rusty Terminal I found myself in, one that looked nothing like a rainforest. There were a few food places and some touristy-type shops, but it was mostly just one big seating area packed with tired, dishevelled looking passengers, myself included, all fighting for a plug socket to charge our iPhone’s. I was so disappointed.

You see, I’m a VERY nervous flyer, so I like to have a little Fun before I Fly, it completely distracts me from the fact that I’m soon to board a 75 tonne piece of machinery that will take me 100,000 feet into the air, without dropping! I like to arrive early to pick a restaurant to eat in before I fly, I like to browse the shops for expensive things I can’t afford, and I love sifting through the magazines and picking a book to purchase for the flight.

But it seems eating, shopping and magazine flicking are just minor distractions compared to some of the outrageous things offered up by airports nowadays. Dealchecker recently shared the most unusual airport attractions from around the world, proving that my airport hobbies are sooooo out-dated and that I need to go and hang out in the likes of Dubai Airport and Hong Kong International. Check out these 10 incredible airport innovations, all of which I am officially adding to my bucket list:

Dealchecker, airports, fun before you fly

How amazing do they all sound? A Mini Museum? A Wave Pool?? The Butterfly Enclosure??? Yes please to all of the above! I especially would love to dine under the starts in Tokyo airport. And when I fly out of Heathrow Airport later this year I will most certainly be checking out that Art Gallery.

What’s the craziest thing you have seen in an airport?

What’s your Fun Before you Fly routine?? Got any tips?

I’d love to know in the comments below….
