We drink it hot, we drink it cold, we even drink it on ice. We have it black, white, bitter, sweet, creamy, full-fat & skinny. We love our coffee art, our coffee cakes and even our coffee ice-cream. This caffeinated beverage is no longer just something to wash down your cornflakes with, for many it is a morning, afternoon and evening beverage needed to help us function. We are so obsessed with coffee that there is even a name for it – OCD: Obsessive Coffee Disorder. So of course coffee was going to work it’s way into the our cocktails too!
You may remember at Christmas I shared a recipe on How to make the Perfect Flat White Martini after going to a cocktail workshop with Baileys. Mixing Espresso with Baileys and Vodka, the Flat White tasted incredible and will now forever be a fave winter cocktail of mine.
This is because Baileys and Coffee go together hand in hand, they blend perfectly due to the rich bitter notes of espresso mixing with the sweet whisky cream liqueur, leaving a delicious taste in your mouth. And last week Baileys sent me over a few new coffee cocktail recipes to try out and OH EM GEE they look incredible. Would you add one of the below to your daily grind??
The Simple: Totally Minted
Food & Drinks innovation company Bompas & Parr partnered with Baileys to produce this creamy yet cool and refreshing cocktail combining Baileys Chocolat Luxe with espresso and creme de menthe.
• 50ml Baileys Chocolat Luxe
• 25ml Espresso
• 5ml White Crème de Menthe
Combine all ingredients into a cocktail shaker and add a handful of ice, put the lid on tight and shake hard for 15 seconds. Pour into a glass and your done. Maybe make it a bit more Instagram worthy by popping a mint leaf on top to garnish.
The Trendy: Grind Time
Created in partnership with Grind & Co, one of my favourite London coffee chains, this delicious brew perfectly combines Baileys & Espresso with Bourbon.
• 30ml Baileys Original Irish Cream
• 50ml Espresso
• 25ml Bourbon
• 160ml Steamed Milk
• Cinnamon and Chocolate Powder
Measure the bourbon and coffee into a cup and add a dash of cold milk. Add Baileys to the remaining milk and steam (or microwave if you don’t have a steamer, which not many of us do!) then mix this into the rest of the drink. Add a dusting of cinnamon and chocolate. Why not try and finish it off with some fancy latte art?
The Extravagant: Baileys Freakshake
Inspired by the Australian crazy shake trend, London bakery Molly Bakes created this hybrid of milkshake, Baileys with cream and chocolate, for those who fancy an over-indulgent treat *raises hand* oh and don’t forget the sprinkles!
• 50ml Baileys Original Irish Cream
• 50ml Chilled Espresso
• 3 Scoops Vanilla Ice Cream
• 125ml Cup Milk
• Chocolate Sauce & Whipped Cream
• White & Dark Chocolate Ball Sprinkles
• Cheesecake Brownie
First, chill the espresso for two hours so it’s nice and cold. Then coat the rim of a jar with chocolate sauce and dip it in sprinkles. Drizzle chocolate sauce around the inside of the jar. In a blender, mix the espresso, Baileys, ice cream and half the milk together, then gradually add the remaining milk. Pour the shake into the jar. Add a scoop of ice cream on top, a swirl of whipped cream and a brownie to top it off, then drizzle with more sauce. Finish with sprinkles! Voila, you have yourself one extravagant coffee cocktail!
Which Coffee cocktail would you give a shot? That last one has a lot of Perks!
Is there one you particularly like a latte?
I feel this could spark a heated and strong debate.
(Okay, I’ll stop with the puns)
