As a huge (and I mean HUGE) Sex and the City fan, I was chuffed to bits to see that SJP has returned to our screens in brand new film All Roads Lead To Rome, and I can’t wait to curl up with a big bowl of Popcorn, a copy of the DVD and to get reacquainted with SJP. And not because she will be playing a shoe-loving, cocktail drinking, column-writing type like Carrie Bradshaw (far from it, try a stressed out Single Mother) but because of where she finds herself – Italy. Bellissimo!
I love a good RomCom, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and Going the Distance are my two absolute faves, but as someone who has grown into a lover of travel and food in her late 20’s, replacing romance with rucksacks, these days I find movies that have a travel twist to them to be so much more interesting and exciting. And no I’m not talking about the likes of Road Trip or Euro Trip, no! I’m talking about beautiful films such as Into the Wild, Eat Pray Love, Wild, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty and one of my faves Lost in Translation. All these films have an element of Romance or Love, but the locations are practically one of the main characters. Will All Roads lead to Rome be added to that list?
Having watched a few clips of the movie, I think it is probably more in the RomCom territory than Travel, BUT I have to admit, the Tuscan backdrop to this movie looks absolutely stunning. I was able to watch a few short clips (you can watch one too below) and they’ve already got me dreaming of Italian farm houses, and craving a glass of red! Why is it that even the Italian countryside looks more glamorous than ours?
The story follows new divorcee Maggie, who takes her somewhat rebellious daughter Summer on a little getaway from New York to Italy (to getaway from Summer’s rebellious boyfriend who is facing time in Prison). Maggie takes Summer to the Tuscan village she used to visit in her youth and on arrival bumps into her old flame, Luca – yup, I think we can all see where this is going.
But then in a bizarre twist, Summer steals Luca’s car (with his 80 year old Mum in it!) and drives off to Rome in an attempt to get back home to her boyfriend. And thus the relaxing Mother & Daughter bonding time hits a bump in the road and instead becomes a Mother hunting for her Daughter through the Italian countryside, complete with car chase in a shiny red convertible. Check out the clip below; a sneak peak of one of the scenes between SJP and Rosie Day, who plays Summer.
Much like I used to love watching Sex and the City for the beautiful shoes, the fab accessories and the Brunch time sex talk, I can’t wait to see this film for the Italian hills & countryside and the Beautiful Tuscan villages … and of course to see SJP back on my screen looking FAB!
