Christmas is possibly the worst time to try and be healthy what with all the advent chocolate, mulled wine and mince pies being passed around. As someone with a sweet tooth (like a mega overactive sweet tooth) I find it too difficult to turn my nose up at every offering of a gingerbread treat, a christmas cocktail or a quality street or two six. So there is no point in me vowing to diet over this festive period. Instead I have decided to try and satisfy my sweet cravings another way. Rather than stuff my face with festive treats at home or when I’m working, I’m opting for this berry-tastic winter smoothie instead.

I whipped up this winter berry smoothie last week using some frozen berries that I had completely forgotten about (and a banana for good measure) and I was so impressed with it that I’ve made it several times since. As well as a sweet treat I’ve also enjoyed it as a pre or post run energy booster; it not only contains four of your five a day, but it is packed with protein. So put down the fudge and make one of these bad boys instead. It literally takes less than 5 minutes. Here is how to make yourself a sweet and frosty Winter Berry Smoothie:

A handful of frozen blueberries
A handful of frozen blackberies
A handful of frozen raspberries
1 chopped banana
300ml soy milk
2 tbsp of fat free yoghurt
A drop of honey

Add all ingredients into a blender and blend for 40 seconds. Enjoy!
