Reality TV dominates our evening TV these days, we’ve got everything from The X-Factor and BGT, to I’m A Celeb and The Voice. We even have channels solely dedicated to nothing but Reality TV, such as ITVBe which shows strands including Rich Kids, The Real Housewives of… and Dinner Date, pretty much 24 hours a day (not that I’m complaining, give me a hangover and a supply of milk and tea bags and I can quite happily sit and watch that channel all day long). But before all the dating drama, the housewife huffs and the panel after panel of ballsy & bitchy judges, there was Big Brother!
I was obsessed with Big Brother when I was younger, who wasn’t? A load of random strangers thrown into a house together just for our entertainment? Of course it was a hit with the public. But over the years I’ve distanced myself from the show, falling for the Celebrity version instead; it’s more fast paced and the contestants are already DIVA’s before they’ve even step foot in the house, making for great TV. Did anyone else see the Perez Hilton show in January?? Well it was such a hit, that this Summer, CBB has taken it to the next level and created a UK vs USA theme, and I was lucky enough to go along to the Press Launch Party on Monday to check out the new digs and hang out with Bit on the Side host Rylan.
There is absolutely no denying that Rylan lives and breathes CBB. It felt like of all the people at the launch, he was the most excited about the new series, which I loved. He refused to reveal or give any clues as to who is going in, but warned us that there is definitely a few Perez’s lined up. In terms of his thoughts on the new style of the house he loved it, admitting “They’ve got well more dresser space than we had on my series” as he took us on a tour of the bedroom. Ryaln thinks that the new UK vs USA theme will cause a massive divide in the house and will no doubt result in even more competitive rivalry between the housemates.
The house itself is AMAZING! Certain areas are British, such as the Big Ben Bathroom, whilst others are American, such as the Diner style kitchen. It was surreal being there, and the living area definitely feels a lot smaller than it looks. But the bedroom is just as big as it seems on TV, with loads of space for running around naked – which BB housemates seem to do a lot. The Central Park Pool has its own Statue of Liberty stood in the centre which I thought was a really nice touch to the theme. Despite the gloomy weather on Monday a few of the journalists actually got in the pool for a quick dip, not me, though, I stayed fully clothed and dry.
Check out my quick vlog below for a virtual tour of the house, or wait until tonight and tune into Channel 5 at 9pm for the Live Launch.
