Changing my Lifestyle #MotivationalMarch

Last month I set myself three goals as part of #MotivationalMarch. I set two serious goals, to lose weight and to write three short stories, and a fun goal; to get more creative with my hair. When I was first thinking about these goals I had a vague idea of how I was going to achieve them and I was confident they would put a positive spin on my lifestyle…

I massively under estimated the effect they would actually have on me.

I think it was a combination of wanting to achieve something big for #MotivationalMarch as well as feeling ambitious about certain changes I wanted to make, but in the space of 31 days I have completely changed my lifestyle. And I feel amazing.

My most important aim was to lose weight and I am happy to report that I lost 8lbs and have dropped down from a 12-14 to a 10-12. I gave up Cider and Bread for lent (43 days!) and also dropped my calorie intake to 1200 per day. I did this by using the app My Fitness Pal to monitor my calories. I also began exercising on a daily basis. I hate gyms, so I downloaded the FitStar app to my iPad and would work out in my living room. It was a shock to the system at first, my body wasn’t used to being so active, so much so that I got Tendonitis in both my feet (discovered after an emergency X-Ray). But still I didn’t give up, I continued exercising, concentrating on floor work instead. I have massively surprised myself at how much I have enjoyed working out, I even have favourite moves (wall squats, crunches and kneeling push ups).

I did lots of other little things to be healthier throughout March, such as massively cutting down on chocolate, adding lots of fruit to my diet, ordering ZERO takeaways, only drinking coffee on weekends, and swapping my morning builders tea for a cup of hot water with honey and lemon. All these changes plus the exercise has not only had such a huge effect in terms of my weight but my moods, my sleeping pattern and the amount of energy I have. Not to mention my relationship is the best it’s ever been.

In my #MotivationalMarch intro I also spoke about the Creative Writing course I had begun and my goal was to write three short stories (in order to prep myself for writing my first novel). I have actually successfully drafted three short stories! All three are significantly different to one another and all three I loved writing. One of them is actually about the main character from my novel and was written as an expansion of a writing exercise given to me by Kerry who ran the course. Looking back at the month of March I cannot believe how much writing (and reading) I have done, it’s been wonderful. The writing course may be over but as a group we have decided to continue meeting once a month and had our first session last week. I am basically more excited than ever to be writing. I was thinking of posting one of my short stories on here – what do you think?

Thirdly, I decided to get more creative with my hair, just for some fun. If you follow me on Instagram you’ll see I’ve done a bit more than wear it ‘loose on the shoulders’ and that one look that has been popping up a lot is the Big Bun. I loved this look so much and got so many compliments on it, I even did a YouTube tutorial (which funnily enough links back to last years #Motivational March posts). March was an amazing month for me. My lifestyle has completely changed. Back in February I was lazy and unmotivated, I was drinking a lot, eating such unhealthy foods, and most of all I didn’t feel confident about myself because I had put on weight. Now I feel fantastic. I still have a fair bit to go to get 100% fit but ultimately I am happy, I am more confident and I am writing, writing, writing. Woohoo for a triumphant #MotivationalMarch
