Eating out this Christmas?

December 22, 2014

I love eating out at restaurants & cafes, whether it’s going to one of my faves or discovering somewhere new, I’m always up for some fab food in a fab place. Maybe it’s something to do with getting older, but these days I’m much more into finding a great restaurant to hang out at as appose to a bar or a nightclub. That’s not to say that I don’t still enjoy a good night out, but my appreciation for food and my interest in trying new cuisines has fattened up so much over the past few years (hence why I too have fattened up, tsk).

Christmas in particular is a busy time for hanging out at restaurants, mainly because Christmas and Food practically go hand in hand. From staff parties to Secret-Santa meet-ups with friends, there are so many reasons to eat out at Christmas. And I’ve just found one more to add to the list: Introducing Quandoo, a website (and app) that take all the hassle of out of finding and booking a restaurant. The easy-to-use site helps you to find a restaurant, book it online, and as a Thank you you receive loyalty points, which build up and amount to a restaurant voucher.

I do love wandering the streets when I’m out and about and accidentally discovering a little hidden-away cafe or a brand spanking new diner, and I love getting recommendations off friends. But Quandoo is about finding places to eat when you make an off-the-cuff decision to dine out. And Christmas is a popular time for that. Is it just me or does December become the busiest month of the year for dining out? I think I’ve been to more restaurants in the past four weeks than I have the rest of the year.

I’m a bit of a hoarder for food apps and have a bunch on my iPhone, such as the M&S cooking app and the Just Eat app (and a dieting app that never gets used!) and I’ve now added Quandoo to the home screen too. Rather than trying to Google restaurants in London, I can use it to find you a whole variety of places with just the click of a button (or the swipe of a screen). There are also ratings and reviews of all the restaurants and plenty of photos, so I know what to expect.

My family and I are planning to go to a restaurant on Christmas Eve, so I may put this app to good use then. Although I am also very excited about all the home-cooked food I’m going to eat too. Mmmmmmmm. Nothing beats a hearty home-cooked meal, and bring on my Mums Christmas dinner! Nom nom nom

Will you be eating out a lot this Christmas? Do you know of any useful apps that will help you through the festive season?

How about your Christmas Dinner – will you be at a restaurant or enjoying a home-cooked meal? Traditional Turkey? Or something a little different?

I’d love to know in the comments below…
